DIETARY TIPS
A beautiful smile begins with healthy teeth
Your smile is your calling card. A healthy diet helps keep it radiant.
Here are some practical tips:
- Choose wholefoods rather than processed ones
- Avoid snacking between meals if you cannot brush your teeth afterwards
- Cut down on sugary, fizzy drinks, chewing gum and sweets.
- Use fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash
- Always brush your teeth after eating. Wait at least 15 minutes before doing so – this way you can neutralize the acid caused by food.
Regarding caries, food can be divided in three groups:
- Cariogenic foods (high risk): acidic food (citrus fruits and juices), simple sugars (honey, cereals, fructose, candied fruit)
- Cariostatic foods (neutral): cooked vegetables, protein (fish or meat) and fats (soft cheese and eggs)
- Anti-cariogenic foods (help prevent the formation of caries): fresh fruit, raw vegetables, hard cheese and milk, water and unsweetened drinks.
